Cadets, staff and supporters from across Thames Valley Wing took part in a range of celebrations to mark ATC Sunday, 6 February 2016.
Over 50 Air Cadets and staff from 2121 (Abingdon) Squadron paraded from Thames Valley Wing HQ to Shippon Church led by the cadet band of 2507 (Bicester) Squadron as streets were lined by members of the local community, including local dignitaries.
Further west, Thames Valley Wing cadets and staff from 2120 (Witney), 1315 (Kidlington) and 1861 (Wantage) Squadrons met at St. Mary's Church in Witney town where a service was led by the chaplain of 2120 Squadron to mark the 75th anniversary. The service also saw the blessing of the new Witney Squadrons banner followed by the National Anthem and members of the congregation singing together to the tune of the Dambusters March.
In a slightly different form of celebrations over 30 cadets and staff from 2410 (Didcot) and 966 (Wallingford) Squadrons travelled to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton to learn about the history of the Naval flying for newer members of the squadrons understand more about the air power.
Members of the Wing Adventure Training community from 211 (Newbury), 2267 (Brize Norton)and 2210 (Cowley) Squadrons marked the occasion in the wild conditions of Llanbedr in North Wales and despite the rain and wind everyone was in high spirits to mark the occasion.
Even for those members of the Wing who perhaps stayed closer to home social media channels were a hive of activity across the Wing sharing photos and videos of the celebrations taking place in London where Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, Commandant Air Cadets, was leading a service of celebration along with RAF Air Cadet Ambassador, Honorary Group Captain Carol Vorderman, and our new Patron of the RAF Air Cadets, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.
