New Sector Officer for South West Sector of Wing

Since the recent promotion of Squadron Leader Nigel Roebuck to his new job as Wing Executive Officer, South West Sector has found itself needing a new Sector Officer.

Flight Lieutenant John Radford RAFVR(T) the Officer Commanding 2467 (Nailsea) Squadron Air Cadets has recently been promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader and he now takes on the role of Sector Commander for the South West Sector of Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing. Squadron Leader Radford will in the immediate future continue to command Nailsea Squadron whilst also becoming line manager to Clevedon, Portishead, Speedwell and Bristol Airport Squadrons. Comprising nearly 200 cadets and over 40 staff.

On being promoted John said “This new role will hopefully allow even more opportunities for cadets and the dedicated staff in the area. We already have plans for joint working to allow cadets the opportunity to extend their skills even further and work alongside other like-minded young people”.

Squadron Leader Radford RAFVR(T) has also recently set out plans for Nailsea Squadron to friends and cadets of the unit. In 2015 plans are already in place for another Jersey Expedition, visits to aviation centres around the UK and field-craft expeditions. The Squadron also hopes to continue building on its previous success in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme with 6 cadets now taking part at silver level and another 15 cadets expected to gain their Bronze Award in 2015. The Squadron now has over 43 cadets enrolled and since August has accepted new cadets from Year 8 and 12 years of age.
