Activities included first aid training and realistic casualty scenarios, initiative and military skills, target shooting, and a visit from the RAF Motivational and Leadership Team, all designed to develop team leadership and personal confidence. Volunteer staff from a wide variety of civilian backgrounds including: paramedics, police officers, businessmen, engineers and teachers, give up their time to support the cadets. VIP visitors included Lady Elizabeth Gass, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire, who enjoyed seeing the activities on offer. Dave Rolfe said, “The camp is a fantastic experience for the cadets, many of whom have not stayed away from home before. They become self-reliant, motivated and confident in their own abilities, as well as having a lot of fun, but none of these activities could take place without the adult staff." There are staff vacancies at several squadrons in Devon Somerset Wing - prior military service is not a prerequisite but, of course, former service personnel will be welcomed.
