Cadets Take Stage at First World War Commemoration

A party of 30 Air Cadets and Staff from Thames Valley Wing were amongst the hundreds who gathered in Reading town centre for a county-wide service to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.  The multi-faith service held at Reading Minster Church heard words of peace and remembrance from religious leaders across several faiths.

Around half of the 600 strong congregation, around half were from the Cadet Forces, Scouts, Guides and from 22 schools from across the county. The Air Cadet party had a very high profile with a group sat opposite the Lord Lieutenant, the Home Secretary and other local MPs with other teams taking the collection and assisting with car parking.

Project Officer, Squadron leader Mark Trevena helped with the event organisation "it was wonderful to see Air Cadets from across Berkshire - Reading, Earley, Wokingham, Windsor, Maidenhead and Bracknell - here en mass today. I heard many VIPs and members of the public alike saying how smart the Air Cadets were" he continued "it was also really pleasing to see our cadets undertake a number of support roles which they performed to perfection".
