Air Cadet National Marching Band cadets from across  the UK attended a high profile event at No 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister's residence in central London, to support a Government initiative to expand cadet units in schools.
For one cadet, Drummer, Cadet Sergeant Aaron Hall, a member of Ryde School Combined Cadet Force on the Isle of Wight, it turned out to be a long day: his ferry left at 0445 hours for the 1700 hours performance at Downing Street.  He said "It was a great privilege to play in such a location and I have really enjoyed it.  It's one of those events that you can only get through being a cadet". The Band's Drum Major, Cadet Sergeant Brandon Prophet from 317 Failsworth & Newton Heath Squadron in Greater Manchester Wing spoke to the Prime Minister. Brandon said that he "discussed being a Drum Major and how he controls and leads the band to great performances", adding "it has been an amazing day and a real privilege to meet the Prime Minister and to mingle with all the other cadets." Cadet Corporal Izaak Stanley played a solo performance on penny whistle in Lord of the Dance reprising his performance at the recent Kingston Band Tattoo. The Band was lead by the Air Cadet Organisation's Principle Director of Music, Wing Commander Gill Singleton RAFVR(T). He said "To play in the gardens of No 10 has got to be one of the best events for the band.  The immense good it has done for the Air cadet Organisation is immeasurable, As always the cadets performed at the top of their game." After listening to the band Mr Cameron said "Being a cadet is a fantastic opportunity that gives young people the skills they need to get on in life.  I want many more people to gain this type of experience no matter what their background, and that is exactly what this new funding will help deliver."
