HIOW Cadets take part in Birmingham Military Tattoo

Two cadets from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing, FS Hannah Matthews 1927 (Petersfield) Squadron and Cdt Angus Odling 1216 (Eastleigh) Squadron joined the ACO National Marching Band at the Birmingham Military Tattoo.

The ACO National Marching Band was invited to perform at the Birmingham International Christmas Tattoo held in the National Indoor Arena on 10th & 11th December 2011 as part of a 70th Anniversary display by the Air cadets, along with the band the National Fanfare Team and 126 (City of Derby) Squadron Rifle Drill Display Team.

The band made up of Air Cadets from all over the United Kingdom was formed in October 2009 and its first public engagement was a Beat Retreat in front of HMS Victory. 2010 saw performances at Duxford, Hendon and the Cadet 150 parade in London. The Birmingham Military Tattoo culminated a busy year for the band which included performances at the St Georges Day rugby match at Twickenham, further appearances at Duxford, the CCF annual awards day and the Royal International Air Tattoo.

2012 is set to be even busier with events to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee and a European Tour to Paris the highlight of which will be leading the Disney parade at DisneyLand Paris.

The Birmingham Military Tattoo ended with a massed band finale and the ACO National Marching Band performed alongside the Band of The Royal Marines Plymouth, The Yorkshire Volunteers Band and Corps of Drums, The Band of the Liberation Army (Netherlands), the Norwegian Guards Veterans Band and the National Youth Marching Band.
